Happy Day for Dist 5 VFD

One of our fire fighters had a birthday this past weekend.  Which meant since he was the oldest in the department, he'd get a surprise party... Just because I had this cake (helmet) I wanted to try to make and besides, he's a very loved guy!!

Pay no serious attention to the round cake beside the helmet... it was there mainly because that little hat wasn't going to feed 30+ of us... and yes we surprised the 73 year old man!!  His family came up and spent the evening with his "other family".  That's how we roll... our department is a family... we have our squabbles... and yes we have to get out and make a living (bull bash).. but in the end we have each other's back as any other family would.  If you don't believe me just show up at one of our calls... we even have a redheaded step child in the bunch....

How to make a Rebel cake flag "classy"?!?!?

You just say a prayer...  I wasn't too sure how I could make a rebel flag retirement/bday cake look classy and not so "Redneckish" but I think I managed to pull it off well..
Cake from what I hear was a hit...

Stay tuned... I'm kind of late blogging, but I've got a few more cute cakes to post from this "non blogging" time

Present Box...

Sorry for the picture quality.... I done my first Fondant/gumpaste loopy bow this weekend for a cake.  Customer was getting a cake for her 70ish (can't remember exactly how old) year old mother and didn't want just plain roses on it.  Anyone who has seen any of my cakes know, nothing I have done has a rose on it.  I hate making roses because I can't get them like I want..  So with the customer's ok, we decided a present box it would be..  I thought it turned out rather cute...

Coming up this week we have a Horse cake... and a truck of some kind...

The Horse cake will be for a coworker and his daughter sent me a coloring page of the horse she wants on her cake and she even colored it to show me exactly what she wants.  I hope I can fulfill her request!!

Busy weekend

What a weekend it has been!!!  Friday night I had a cake to do that should have only taken a couple of hours to do.. well lets just say that's not how it went and I forgot to take a picture of it!!
Saturday was spent running... delivering cake, baking more cake, cleaning up here and there, then a trip to Natchez with Tara.  There is a very important wedding quickly approaching and Chonda Belle has no dress yet (but i know what I want).  But prior to our leaving, Justin had to get home so he could get the boys.  We wondered why he was taking his time getting home, but now we know.  He was showing off his catch:
Not sure of size I think I remember 10lbs and some odd ounces... Enough to place him second in a tournament.

Sunday morning I kinda realized I was suppose to have Colten's cake ready for lunch..  All I had done was baked the "shell".  So a quickly I threw together a turtle cake.  This was just for family, so I didn't go all out.  I think he was rather happy with the outcome.
Happy 4th Birthday to my Blue Eye, Blond Hair boy!!!

Busy Weekend!!

I'm trying to figure out where my weekend went to!!    Friday night I baked a Cream Cheese pound cake for Satuday's blood drive for the fire department.  This drive guarantees (if goals are met) that all of my firefighters, EMT, and dive members are covered (cost wise) in the event they need blood.  Since we met BOTH goals I set, all members are covered along with their immediate family members!!   And besides it's just nice to have the feeling that you've help someone that will be in need at some point in time!!   THANK YOU to all those that came an donated Saturday.
After the blood drive, I ran home, ate supper, baked 2 cakes, grabbed Cheyenne  and off to town we went for Cakepop Bouquet supplies.  I decided to "make" Mom, Bridget and Brandy something.  This is the outcome of a Cakepop Bouquet.  I thought turned out pretty cute..
Sorry for the picture quality.. it was taken from my phone...batteries are dead in both my good cameras!  (imagine that?!?!)

Yesterday, I was up and gone by 7:15.  My dear friends I lived with over in Monterey, LA are in the middle of packing and moving to higher ground.  All will be okay if the levees of the Mighty Mississippi hold, but they can't wait until they break to pack.  So we spent the day cleaning out and packing up.  I didn't realize how much I missed that house, all the happenings of that little place and those twins!
I wish I had been able to stop and take some pictures of the Ms River.  I never recall seeing it as it is now.  Just breath-taking!

Ryan's Hay Bale Cake

(my version for Ryan)

As many of you know "my baby" Ryan is getting married next month (oh my gosh! *insert panic because I haven't started looking for an outfit**), the family on Shelly's side gave Ryan a Honey Do shower and I was asked to make his cake.

The cake was totally up to me.  Just whatever I thought would fit Ryan.  I had played around in my mind with a western themed idea, but I didn't want just any ordinary western.  Ryan wears the boots and fits the country part, but it doesn't ooze from him and I wasn't really happy with my idea.  So at the last minute, I googled "Hay bale cakes" and someone actually had a wedding cake made out of hay bales! And anyone who knows Ryan knows a hay bale is perfect oh and a John Deere tractor must be involved.

Here's the version I got the idea from:
So I thought I done pretty good.  I'm still in awe at some of the cakes people create.  I really wish I had the time, the space and funds to really play.  Sounds like I may need to lighten my "other things" to make room for cakes!!
Thanks to Jeanne (Ryan's soon to be mother in law) & Nana (Ryan's grandmother) for taking the picture of my version since I forgot to take pictures!

Lost password = a new blog

Well, I guess this happens at one point in time to all of us... Lose a password, change an email address and you are locked out of your old blog forever!  They'll send you an email with your password BUT it is sent to an email that is no longer in existence...solution is to make a new blog.  WHY?!?  I know no one is that interested in my day to day life, but I do have family thousand of miles away that periodically check on us down here.  This is my way of keeping them up to day on the happenings here in the south!  And I promise to be better about posting!!  Love U all!
